'We Used Our Own Resources, Adu-Boahene Clutching at Straws' - NDC Denies Receiving GHC8m from NSB

Accra, Ghana - 09 May, 2025 - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vehemently denied allegations that it received funds from the National Signals Bureau (NSB) ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The claims, made by former NSB boss Kwabena Adu-Boahene, suggest that over GH¢8 million was given to opposition parties to support election logistics and equipment procurement.
Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, the NDC's Deputy Director of Elections and IT, categorically rejected the allegations in an interview with Joy News. He described the claims as baseless and accused Adu-Boahene of clutching at straws.
Tanko-Computer emphasized that the NDC has no association with the alleged funds and highlighted the party's commitment to lawful and transparent electioneering practices.
“Those people they’re referring to supported them during their recent demonstration. He knows his partners—that’s who he was referring to. And I’m sure everybody has seen that. My opponent would give me resources to defeat him in an election? Does that make sense?
“I can speak on authority—it’s not possible at all. These guys are just clutching at straws. It won’t help them. They should go and negotiate a plea bargain, otherwise, he [Adu-Boahene] could be looking at 25 years,” he said.
The NDC has demanded clarity and transparency regarding the source and use of the funds, while also questioning the credibility of Adu-Boahene's claims. Tanko-Computer further accused some opposition parties of lacking genuine commitment to unseating the New Patriotic Party (NPP), suggesting that they often align with the ruling party.
Adu-Boahene's allegations also included claims that the GH¢49 million he is accused of misappropriating was used for covert national security operations, and that the Attorney General is engaging in "malicious prosecution" against him.
The NDC maintains that it used its own resources to campaign and has dealt a significant blow to the NPP.
“When we were in IPAC, anytime the NDC opposed the EC and NPP, those parties sided with the EC and NPP. The NDC has nothing to do with this. We fought hard, used our own resources, and dealt a heavy blow to the NPP.
“The party has no business with whatever rubbish is coming out—we are not part of it.”
