7-Year-Old Boy Falls into Uncovered Manhole Pit, Drowns
A devastating incident has occurred in the Abuom Redtop area near West Hills Mall, resulting in the tragic death of a 7-year-old boy who drowned in a water-filled manhole pit on Monday, October 27.
According to a statement by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the boy accidentally fell into the uncovered pit, which had been left filled with muddy water. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, but attempts to save the child were unsuccessful due to the depth and murky conditions of the water.
The GNFS used a water extraction machine to reduce the level of water and retrieve the body. The distressing footage captures firefighters using pumps while onlookers watch anxiously.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for better safety enforcement in construction and excavation sites across the area. Many residents have expressed frustration over what they describe as negligence on the part of developers and municipal authorities.
Municipal officials have promised to look into the matter and enforce stricter safety protocols for ongoing projects.
