"May She Rest in Peace": Mahama Leads Moment of Silence for Nana Konadu

Accra ,October 23,2025 - President John Dramani Mahama has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who died at the age of 76 at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. The President received a delegation of her children and family members at the Jubilee House, who officially informed him of her demise.

During the swearing-in ceremony of 37 new High Court judges, President Mahama led a moment of silence in honor of the departed leader, praying for her peaceful rest. "May the Almighty God grant her peaceful rest in His bosom. Amen," he said, acknowledging her significant contributions to Ghana's development and women's empowerment.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a trailblazing figure in Ghanaian politics, serving as First Lady from 1979 to 2001. She founded the 31st December Women's Movement, empowering millions of women through education, training, and community development. Her legacy extends beyond Ghana, earning her recognition across Africa for her activism and social change initiatives.

As First Lady, she championed gender equality and social justice, helping pass laws protecting women's and children's rights. In 2016, she made history as Ghana's first female presidential candidate, running on the National Democratic Party (NDP) ticket.
