Highlife Legend Dada KD Laid to Rest
Accra ,Ghana – September 21,2025 - Ghanaian highlife legend Dada KD was laid to rest in a grand farewell ceremony that drew hundreds of mourners, including musicians, politicians, businessmen, traditional leaders, government officials, and citizens. The funeral rites were held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, where tributes were paid to the late music star.
Dada KD, born Emmanuel Harris Brefo, passed away in May 2025 at the age of 54 after a brief illness. He was remembered for his soulful voice and emotional delivery, which left an indelible mark on Ghanaian music. Some of his most popular songs include "Tekyere Ma," "Ene Menye," "Wosuro a Wondi," "Honey Love," and "Fatia Fata Nkrumah".
Music producer Fred Kyei Mensah eulogized Dada KD, saying, "He has definitely left a legacy. Dada KD did a lot of love songs, and he had not in-depth knowledge of our life culture, so it brought that confidence in his music, especially his lyrics, and he will be missed." He described Dada KD as a principled person and a very intellectual individual who discussed life's issues with depth.
The late highlife star was remembered fondly by hundreds of mourners who gathered to pay their respects. After the memorial service at the State House, his mortal remains were taken to Agona Asamang in the Ashanti Region for burial and thanksgiving services.
Dada KD's contribution to Ghanaian music is undeniable. He won the Best Male Vocal Artist award at the 2004 Ghana Music Awards UK and was set to perform in London alongside other notable artists. His legacy will live on through his music, and he will be deeply missed by fans and fellow musicians alike.
