Kennedy Agyapong to Contest NPP Primaries in 2028 - Brother confirms

USA - 18 March, 2025 - Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent figure in Ghana's New Patriotic Party (NPP), is gearing up to run for the party's flagbearer position in the 2028 general elections according to his brother Ralph Agyapong.
Ralph revealed his brother's intentions during a televised interview with Kings Jersey TV in the US on March 15, 2025, confirming that Kennedy Agyapong is indeed entering the fray.
“I can tell you on authority that he will contest the presidency or the NPP primaries, hopefully, next year, because we might have an early congress. He will be on the ballot paper,” Ralph Agyapong stated.
Accordig to Ralph, Kennedy Agyapong's 2024 presidential primary bid showcased his strength within the NPP, securing a respectable 14.30% of the vote despite falling short of the top spot. This impressive performance demonstrated significant backing from party members.
The NPP's 2024 general election loss has prompted a reevaluation of support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, potentially boosting Kennedy's chances in the 2028 primaries. Ralph Agyapong attributed the party's loss to poor campaign strategies and emphasized the need for fresh leadership to revitalize the party's prospects in 2028.
In Ralph's view, Kennedy embodies the strong, relatable leadership needed to propel the NPP forward. As the party gears up for a competitive primary, Kennedy's early declaration is poised to significantly influence the outcome.
“As I speak, a lot of people have made a U-turn,”
Ralph Agyapong attributed the NPP's electoral loss to a flawed strategy, implying that a change in leadership, with Kennedy Agyapong at the helm, is necessary for the party's future success.
“The strategy that was used did not help the party to win,”he remarked.
