The Kia truck, with registration number GW-5828-17, was carrying traders who were returning from the Kukpalgu market at the time of the accident. The tricycle, a Motorking brand, had reportedly suffered a mechanical failure and was abandoned on the road, where it was struck by the oncoming truck.
The force of the collision was immense, causing catastrophic damage to both vehicles and resulting in the deaths of three people. Several others were injured in the crash, with reports suggesting that over ten people were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The cause of the accident is still unknown, but investigations are expected to commence soon. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident, but the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that the crash occurred and that an investigation is underway.
This latest incident highlights the growing concern over road safety in Ghana. According to the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), there has been a significant increase in road fatalities in 2025, with 2,180 people losing their lives in road crashes so far this year .The MTTD has attributed the surge primarily to driver negligence, fatigue, and carelessness, but noted that poor road infrastructure remains a significant contributor to the high death toll .
