Tragedy Strikes White Volta: Boat Paddler Feared Dead after Canoe Capsizes in Daboya   

A devastating incident has occurred on the White Volta in the Savannah Region, leaving one person feared dead after a canoe capsized in the early hours of Monday, October 27, 2025.

The victim, identified as Razack Simon, a local boat paddler in his early forties, reportedly lost his life after his canoe overturned while returning from a ferry trip.

According to Abdul Rashid Yamusah, North Gonja District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Razack had earlier successfully ferried a group of farmers from Daboya to the Tamale bank of the river.

Tragically, the accident occurred around 4:12 a.m. while Razack was returning alone, resulting in the canoe capsizing with him as the sole occupant.

A rescue team has been promptly deployed to search for the missing paddler, with efforts currently underway to recover the body.
