In a landmark ruling, the Kumasi High Court has sentenced a police officer to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, bringing an end to a highly publicized case that has captivated the nation.

Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, also known as “Taacum,” was found guilty of killing his 26-year-old girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah, popularly known as Maadwoa, in a case that shocked the nation due to its brutality and the fact that the perpetrator was a law enforcement officer.

The sentence was delivered on Friday, October 24, 2025, by Justice Rosemond Baah-Tosu, after a seven-member jury found the officer guilty by a 5–2 majority verdict. The court’s decision was met with tears of relief and joy from the victim’s family, who had been seeking justice for their loved one.

Prosecutors said the killing followed a dispute over a GH¢5,000 debt that the police officer had reportedly demanded from the deceased. After she failed to repay the amount, he confronted her and shot her with his service rifle, killing her instantly.

The case against Inspector Twumasi was built around overwhelming evidence, including eyewitness testimony, forensic analysis, and the accused’s own admission of guilt. Prosecutors argued that the officer had planned and executed the murder with precision, taking advantage of his training and expertise to avoid detection.

However, the prosecution’s case was not without its challenges. The defence team raised several objections throughout the trial, including claims of prosecutorial misconduct and allegations that the evidence presented was tainted. Despite these challenges, the prosecution remained steadfast, presenting a compelling case that ultimately led to the officer’s conviction.

The victim’s family expressed gratitude to the court and the prosecution team for their tireless efforts in seeking justice for their loved one.
