DStv Pricing in Limbo as Stakeholders Plea for More Time
Accra ,Ghana – September 23,2025 - The National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced that the stakeholder committee established to evaluate DStv pricing in Ghana has requested a one-week extension to complete its work. The committee, formed on September 8, 2025, aims to achieve a shared understanding of DStv pricing for Ghana and establish a roadmap to curb cross-border piracy of DStv decoders and services from Nigeria.
According to the NCA's press release dated September 23, 2025, the committee has made significant progress but requires additional time to finalize its tasks. The extension has been granted by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations. The outcome of the committee's work is expected to be presented by September 29, 2025.
Key objectives of the committee include achieving a shared understanding of DStv pricing for Ghana that is mutually acceptable and commercially viable, and establishing a roadmap to curb cross-border piracy of DStv decoders/services from Nigeria to Ghana.
The NCA, established by an Act of Parliament in 1996 and reconstituted under Act 769 in 2008, is responsible for licensing and regulating electronic communication activities and services in Ghana.
The outcome of the committee's work could have implications for DStv operations in Ghana, particularly regarding pricing strategies and measures to combat piracy. With the expected presentation date of September 29, 2025, stakeholders are likely awaiting the committee's findings and recommendations.
