Pope Francis had faced health challenges in recent weeks, including a hospitalization for a respiratory tract infection and double pneumonia in February and March. Despite these health issues, he remained active in his papal duties until his death.
A papal conclave is expected to begin in the coming weeks to elect the next Pope, marking a new chapter for the Catholic Church.
