CDS Presents Posthumous Ranks to Helicopter Crash Victims' Families
Accra ,Ghana - In a solemn ceremony held at the Air Force Headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, presented posthumous ranks and insignia to the families of military personnel who lost their lives in the tragic Adansi helicopter crash.
President John Dramani Mahama had earlier announced the posthumous promotions of the three military personnel, as a mark of respect for their duty performed until the very end. The promotions included :
- Squadron Leader Peter Obafemi Anala: Elevated to Wing Commander
- Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu: Promoted to Flight Lieutenant
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah: Advanced to Flight Sergeant
The Chief of Defence Staff reassured the families that they would receive all benefits and entitlements associated with the new ranks. Additionally, the families were presented with GHC 315,000, raised through donations from supporting organizations, institutions, and individuals.
Lieutenant General Agyapong also proposed the establishment of a childcare fund to cater for dependents, particularly children, in the event of death in the line of duty. This initiative aims to provide financial support and security for the families of fallen personnel.
