Mahama Ayariga Condemns Police Over Alleged Shooting in Bawku

Bawku, Ghana - 09 April, 2025 - Ghana's Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has strongly condemned the police for allegedly shooting youths in Bawku.
The incident has heightened tensions in the area, prompting Ayariga to issue a statement denying claims that he instructed police to allow residents to access the local market or purchase goods.
Ayariga clarified that operational decisions rest solely with law enforcement agencies, emphasizing that he has no authority over their actions. He stressed the need for security forces to cooperate with traditional authorities to restore calm and maintain order.
The MP advised law enforcement officers to work with Abugrago Azoka II, the Zugran and overlord of Kusaug, to ensure peace in the Traditional Area.
The situation in Bawku remains volatile, with concerns about the use of force by security agencies.
