Police Given 48-Hour Deadline to Arrest Ridge Hospital Attackers
Accra ,Ghana ,August 19,2025 - The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives' Association (GRNMA) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Ghana Police Service to apprehend the individuals responsible for a recent attack on healthcare workers at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.
The ultimatum, issued on August 19, 2025 through a press statement, demands that the police takes urgent action to arrest the perpetrators of the unprovoked violent assault and bring them to justice.
The attack, which occurred on Monday, August 18, 2025, was described by the GRNMA as a "loathsome act of violence" perpetrated against dedicated healthcare professionals working tirelessly despite inherent challenges in the system. The association's National Executive Committee met to address the incident and its aftermath, engaging with hospital management and affected nurses and midwives.
The GRNMA's demands include enhanced security measures ,apprehension of perpetrators – subsequently respect for healthcare professionals calling on the general public to foster appreciation and respect for the vital contributions of healthcare professionals.
The GRNMA's President, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and General Secretary, Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, urged all nurses and midwives to stand united against workplace violence.
They emphasized that quality health services can only be provided in a safe environment. The association also criticized the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, for a perceived display of affection towards the alleged ringleader, stating that it emboldens perpetrators to repeat such acts.
