FAWE Ghana, UCC partner to empower marginalized students with MasterCard Scholars Program
The Mastercard Foundation's Phase II program made significant progress as FAWE Ghana and the University of Cape Coast hosted a collaborative stakeholder engagement session

Accra, Ghana - The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Ghana chapter has met with the University of Cape Coast (UCC), represented by Professor Mrs. Rosemond Boahene, Pro-Vice Chancellor, to discuss the MasterCard Scholars Program Phase II.

The program, sponsored by FAWE and MasterCard, aims to support disadvantaged and marginalsed students in Ghana with full schoalrships.

Program Overview


The program is divided into two phases, expected to  provide full schoalrships to 600 beneficiaries :

- TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training):  with 80 girls and 20 boys aged 15-25 years.

The program will be implemented in three cohorts: 2025, 2026, and 2027. 


- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics): 500 beneficiaries.

Bridging Program for STEM Students

FAWE and UCC also discussed establishing a bridging program to support marginalized students who fail to meet admission requirements. This certificate program, similar to Uganda's Higher Education Access Certificate Program, will prepare students for university admission.

Inclusivity

At least 5-20% of beneficiaries will be persons with disabilities.

This collaboration demonstrates FAWE Ghana and UCC's commitment to promoting education and empowerment for disadvantaged students in Ghana.

The meeting brought together the program's National Coordinator, Richard Amoani, Program Manager, Anna Nabere and esteemed Board member of FAWE Ghana, Prof. Georgina Oduro, with top representatives from the university.
