Techiman Central Market Destroyed by Devastating Fire
Techiman, Ghana - 13 Jan, 2025 - A devastating blaze has swept through the Techiman Central Market in Ghana's Bono East Region, leaving a trail of destruction and despair among traders and residents.
Eyewitnesses describe the inferno, which erupted on Sunday night, as spreading rapidly due to the market's cramped layout and abundance of flammable materials.
Divisional Officer I (DOI) Alex King Nartey from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations Department confirmed the incident on his Facebook page.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) battled to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby areas.
The incident is the latest in a series of market fires to hit Ghana in recent weeks, sparking concerns among traders and authorities. Just 11 days ago, a massive fire ravaged Accra's Kantamanto Market, one of the world's largest second-hand clothing hubs, leaving thousands of traders without livelihoods and causing significant financial losses.
The frequency of these market fires has raised questions about fire safety measures and emergency preparedness in Ghana's markets.
