We want to know who is funding ORAL - Afenyo-Markin
The newly established committee, Operation Recover All the Loot (ORAL), set up by President-elect John Mahama, and tasked with investigating corruption and related cases within the outgoing government has come under scrutiny from Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who is seeking clarity on the source of funding for the committee's activities.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show' on Wednesday, 18 December, Afenyo-Markin raised concerns that the committee's work, which involves collecting and investigating corruption cases, will require substantial funding.
He questioned whether the five-member committee is being funded privately or publicly, warning that private funding could lead to corruption, while public funding would necessitate transparency in resource allocation.
“Nobody should have to ask Ablakwa (chairman of the committee)how the committee’s work is going to be funded. If a private individual is funding it, they are talking about corruption; we need to know who is funding it''.
“Whose money are they going to use to buy fuel? Whose money will they use to set up an office?” he asked.
The ORAL committee, chaired by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is expected to hand over its findings to the relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
The outgoing Majority Majority Leader also announced that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will conduct its own investigation into the committee's work, ensuring that transparency and accountability are maintained throughout the process.
