US Ambassador Virginia Palmer Bids Farewell to Ghana After 3-Year Tenure

Accra, Ghana - 29 May, 2025 - The United States Embassy in Ghana bid a fond farewell to Ambassador Virginia Evelyn Palmer on May 28, 2025, as she concluded her three-year tenure in the country.

During her time as Ambassador, Palmer played a crucial role in strengthening the bond between the United States and Ghana, fostering cooperation in key areas such as health, security, economic development, and democratic governance. 

Her dedication and service to the U.S. Foreign Service spanned an impressive 39 years, earning her a reputation as a seasoned diplomat.

The Embassy, in a social media post, paid tribute to Ambassador Palmer's outstanding contributions, noting that her leadership had a significant impact on the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

“Yesterday, May 28, we bid farewell to Ambassador Virginia Evelyn Palmer. After a three-year tour in Ghana, she concluded her assignment and departed post. We thank her for her outstanding service in her 39-year career with the U.S. Foreign Service and wish her all the best as she begins her next chapter,” the post read.

Through her tireless efforts, Palmer engaged with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, civil society, and the private sector, to promote mutual understanding, cooperation, and development between the United States and Ghana.

As Ambassador Palmer departed Ghana, Deputy Chief of Mission Rolf Olson took over as Chargé d'Affaires, tasked with leading the Embassy until a new ambassador is appointed.
