Ato Forson to Lead AfDB Elections as Returning Officer

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has appointed Ghana's Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, as Returning Officer for its presidential elections, entrusting him with the critical responsibility of ensuring a free, fair, and transparent voting process.
The elections are being held to select a successor to Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the 8th elected President of the AfDB Group, whose tenure is coming to an end. Five candidates from across the continent are vying for the presidency, each with their own unique strengths and vision for the Bank's future.
The candidates include Mr. Amadou Hott from Senegal, Dr. Samuel Munzele Maimbo from Zambia, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah from Mauritania, Mr. Abbas Mahamat Tolli from Chad, and Ms. Bajabulile Swazi Tshabalala from South Africa.
As Returning Officer, Dr. Forson is responsible for verifying the integrity of the voting process, ensuring that the ballot box is empty before each round of voting, and confirming the number of ballots cast matches the number of eligible voters.
He will also reject invalid ballots and certify that only valid votes are counted. Dr. Forson will be supported by the Secretary General, the General Counsel, and a technical team responsible for ensuring the accuracy of vote tabulation.
