UPSA Postpones Investiture of New Vice-Chancellor
Accra, Ghana - December 27, 2024 - The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has deferred the investiture ceremony of its incoming Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, which was initially scheduled for today, Friday, December 27, 2024.
Although the university's registrar cited no specific reasons for the postponement, speculation suggests potential legal challenges may be a factor. An alumnus of UPSA, Rashid Ibrahim, reportedly filed a court injunction to halt the ceremony, amid allegations surrounding Professor Mawutor's academic promotion.
Professor Mawutor, a renowned finance expert, was appointed as the incoming Vice-Chancellor of UPSA in May 2024, taking effect on January 1, 2025. His academic and professional background spans over 20 years, with extensive experience in accounting and finance.
The university has assured stakeholders that a new date for the investiture ceremony will be communicated in due course, apologizing for any inconvenience caused and expressing appreciation for the public's understanding.
