WAEC Confirms Receipt of GHS35m from Gov't to Expedite 2024 WASSCE Results Release

Ghana's Ministry of Education has provided an additional GHS35 million to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to facilitate the timely release of the 2024 WASSCE results. This funding boost brings the total amount paid by the government to GHS60 million, with an outstanding balance of GHS58 million yet to be settled.

The payment is expected to expedite the scanning of objective answer cards and conclude the processing of results for school candidates.

WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, confirmed receiving the additional sum in a statement issued on Dec 27. He assured stakeholders that the council is working diligently to release the results by the end of the month.

However, Kapi also appealed to the Ministry of Education to release the outstanding balance to enable WAEC to pay supervisors, invigilators, script checkers, and suppliers of examination materials. This funding is crucial to ensure the smooth operation of the examination process and maintain the integrity of the results.

“WAEC wishes to inform its stakeholders that on December 25, 2024, it received a cheque for an additional GHS35,000,000 from the Ministry of Education to enable it to complete the scanning of the objective answer cards and conclude the processing of results for the WASSCE for school candidates, 2024.”

“The council wishes all its stakeholders the best of the season and assures them of its commitment to the execution of its mandate despite the challenges,'' portions of the ststement read.

The 2024 WASSCE results are eagerly anticipated by over 460,000 students, and any delays could impact university admissions and academic calendars.
