Tribal Violence in Nkwanta Leaves One Dead, Eight Arrested
Nkwanta, Oti Region - 28 June, 2025 - Tribal violence has rocked the Nkwanta South area in Ghana's Oti Region, resulting in the death of a student and injuries to two others. The violence, which began on Thursday, June 26, prompted the Ghana Education Service to close Nkwanta Senior High School.
According to reports, two female students were shot on their way to school on Thursday, while a male student was killed by a stray bullet inside his classroom during mock examinations on Friday, June 27.
The police have arrested eight people in connection with the violence and have established a strong security presence in Nkwanta to maintain law and order.
DSP John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer of the Oti Regional Police Command, confirmed that calm has been restored in the area.
According to him, the police are working to ensure the situation remains under control, and investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the violence.
“As I am talking, calm has been restored in Nkwanta following the recent violent incident. Swift and decisive actions have been taken to maintain law and order.''
