Election 2024: Ghana Police intercept 88 suspects en route to polling stations

A major security operation unfolded in Ghana's Western North Region on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, as police intercepted 88 individuals on board two Metro Mass Transit buses. The suspects, allegedly recruited by a man known as Sammy, were destined for polling stations in the region.

According to preliminary investigations, the individuals were recruited from various locations in the Greater Accra Region, including Adenta, Oyarifa, and Madina. Their intended role was to provide security at polling stations, a responsibility typically entrusted to trained law enforcement officers.

The Ghana Police Service revealed in a statement released on Dec 3 that the suspects have been taken into custody, where they are assisting with the investigation. Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway for Sammy, the alleged mastermind behind the recruitment operation.

This development has raised concerns about the potential for electoral disruptions and the integrity of the upcoming polls. The Ghana Police Service has reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring a secure and transparent electoral process.

Below is the statement from the Polce.
