Tragic Accident Claims 15 Lives on Kumasi-Accra Highway
ATWEDIA, Ghana – 28 July, 2025 –
The church members were returning to Obogu in the Asante Akyem South Municipality after attending their annual meeting in the Eastern Region. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in multiple fatalities on the spot. Emergency services, including police and fire officers, responded quickly to the scene to manage the situation and transport the bodies to a nearby morgue.
The victims have been identified as members of the Saviour Church, with reports indicating that some of the deceased were children of the church's head pastor. An elder of the church, Kofi Baah, confirmed that 15 bodies were deposited at the mortuary, while four others were critically injured and admitted to the Emergency Unit.
The Ghana National Fire Service and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service are investigating the cause of the accident. The authorities have begun efforts to identify the victims and notify their families.
This tragic incident highlights the ongoing concerns about road safety in Ghana. According to the National Road Safety Authority, the country recorded 7,289 road crashes and 1,504 fatalities between January and June 2025, representing a concerning trend.
The accident has sent shockwaves through the Obogu community, with many residents rushing to the hospital to verify whether their relatives were among the deceased.
