Daddy Lumba's Funeral Gets Government Backing
Accra, Ghana, August 25,2025 - In a heartfelt gesture, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has pledged the government's support for the late music icon Daddy Lumba's funeral, reaffirming the nation's appreciation for his enduring legacy.
This assurance came during a somber meeting at the Jubilee House, where the family formally notified the Presidency of Lumba's passing.
Debrah described Daddy Lumba as a national treasure whose songs cut across generations, moods, and occasions. "Whether people were happy or sad, his music brought comfort and joy. His legacy is one that must not be forgotten," he emphasized. The Chief of Staff highlighted that President John Dramani Mahama was a devoted admirer of Daddy Lumba's music, often singing along to his songs in his car.
"As a government, we will support the family in this difficult time," Debrah assured. The one-week observation will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium, while the final funeral rites will take place in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
Daddy Lumba's passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from musicians, fans, and national figures, all acknowledging the profound impact he had on Ghanaian music and culture.
With a career spanning over three decades, he released more than 30 albums and delivered timeless hits that continue to resonate with Ghanaians.
