Accra, Ghana - 18 March, 2025 - Sarah Adwoa Safo, the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya has stated that her party's misunderstanding of her actions led to her loss in the parliamentary primaries.

In an inreview with Asempa FM on March 18, she noted that her efforts to make amends for past mistakes were misinterpreted, resulting in her punishment and subsequent exclusion from the primaries.

Safo suggested that party officials orchestrated her defeat, citing her perceived mistreatment of them as the reason. Despite her attempts to show remorse, she believes her conduct was misperceived, leading to her removal from the race.

“That’s what I think the party misunderstood me and decided to punish me, and that cost me my primaries,” she stated.

This incident highlights a broader concern in Ghana's political landscape: the underrepresentation of female lawmakers in Parliament. Safo implies that her experience may be part of a larger trend affecting women in politics, where they face unique challenges and biases that hinder their success.

“That is why I stated earlier that we have fewer female lawmakers in Parliament,”she added.
