Baba Sadiq wins Okaikwei Central seat for NDC

Ghana's Electoral Commission has declared Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the winner of the Okaikwei Central parliamentary seat.

Sadiq secured 15,383 votes, narrowly defeating incumbent Patrick Yaw Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 14,949 votes.

The declaration followed a review of the results after protests from the NDC. The Electoral Commission had identified anomalies in 31 pink sheets, prompting consultations before the final decision.

The NDC had argued that using two-thirds of the available polling station results was a valid basis for declaring the results, while the NPP disagreed. Despite the challenges, including collation delays and destruction of voting booths, the collation was completed, confirming Sadiq's victory.

This win marks a significant gain for the NDC in the Okaikwei Central constituency. However, the outcome may be contested, as Boamah has threatened to challenge the results in court.
