State Drops Charges Against Former SSNIT Boss Ernest Thompson and Three Others

Accra, Ghana - 08 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has withdrawn all charges against Dr Ernest Thompson, the former Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), and three others namely; John Hagan Mensah, Peter Hayibor, Caleb Afaglo and Juliet Hassana Kramer, in a case involving alleged financial impropriety.
The Attorney-General's decision was made official through a notice signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, which cited specific sections of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960, as the legal basis for the withdrawal
The decision brings to an end a protracted case that began under the previous administration, which had accused the defendants of financial impropriety resulting in losses to the state.
Dr. Thompson and his co-accused are now cleared of any wrongdoing and as result, the defendants' lawyers have been formally notified of the decision.
