British Man Arrested with 53kg Cannabis at KIA, Two Airport Staff Held

Accra, Ghana - 19 May, 2025 - A significant drug bust has been recorded at Ghana's Kotoka International Airport (KIA), where Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) officers arrested a British national attempting to smuggle 53.60 kilograms of cannabis into the country.

The suspect, who arrived on a flight from Thailand via Dubai, was intercepted during a routine inspection.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two accomplices, a customs officer and a porter, allegedly working at the airport's VIP section. They are believed to have been aiding the suspect in facilitating the passage of the contraband through security.

All three suspects are currently in custody, assisting NACOC with ongoing investigations into a suspected international drug trafficking network. The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of Ghanaian authorities to combat drug trafficking and corruption at the country's major airport.
