Security Forces Deployed to Savannah Region Amid Communal Violence Over Disputed Land
Savannah Region ,Ghana,August 25,2025 - The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces and other stakeholders, has intensified security measures in the Savannah Region following recent communal clashes. Reinforcement teams have been deployed to Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri, and surrounding communities to restore calm and beef up security.
A dispute over land in Gbiniyiri turned deadly on Sunday, August 24, sparking clashes that claimed at least five lives and left six others injured, with three critically wounded. The violence has raised concerns about the need for swift intervention to prevent further escalation.
Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is personally overseeing the security efforts, leading a team from the National Police Headquarters to assess the situation and engage with local leaders. The team aims to work closely with chiefs, opinion leaders, and community leaders to ensure lasting peace in the area.
The police have urged all parties involved to remain calm and cooperate with the security teams to achieve a peaceful resolution.This development comes as part of the government's efforts to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and prevent further escalation of violence.
