Ghana Seeks US Expertise in Deadly Plane Crash Investigation
Accra, Ghana, August 25,2025 - The Mahama Administration has enlisted the help of investigators from the United States to probe the August 6 plane crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two ministers of state. The investigative committee, tasked with completing its work within 30 days, will work alongside international experts to determine the cause of the accident.
It’s being chaired by the National Security Coordinator, selected members from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
The United States of America is providing advice and assistance to the investigative committee through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force.
A press release issued and signed by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, MP, Acting Minister for Defence noted the investigation is expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding the Z-9 helicopter crash and inform measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The crash is one of the deadliest air disasters in Ghana's history, sparking widespread shock and grief. The government has assured the public of a thorough investigation, with the committee empowered to invite relevant experts to assist in the probe.
