Mahama's UNGA 80 Diplomacy: What to Expect

Accra ,Ghana – September 21,2025 - President John Mahama has departed for New York to lead a high-level delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), which kicks off on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. President Mahama is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

In his capacity as the African Union's champion for financial institutions, President Mahama will host two significant side events during the UNGA. He will also engage in crucial bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, various heads of state, and global leaders like the President of the Rockefeller Foundation. Additionally, President Mahama will interact with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and make a historic visit to NASDAQ, where he is expected to ring the closing bell.

Accompanying President Mahama is First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, who will attend and address side events organized by the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). She will also deliver a keynote address at a special World Vision International prayer service focused on the world's children.

The President's delegation includes key officials such as Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Executive Secretary Dr. Callistus Mahama, Special Aide and Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Deputy Chief of Staff (Finance and Administration) Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Trade Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotions Centre Simon Madjie.

President Mahama and his delegation are expected to return to Ghana on September 30, 2025. This trip highlights Ghana's engagement with global leaders and institutions on key issues like financial institutions, as championed by President Mahama through the African Union. The interactions with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and the historic NASDAQ visit underscore the importance of Ghana-US relations and economic engagement.
