Mahama Directs Investigation into Deadly Obuasi Mine Clash
Accra, Ghana - 19 Jan, 2025 - A probe has been ordered by President John Dramani Mahama into the violent clash between illegal miners and military personnel at AngloGold Ashanti Mines in Obuasi, which resulted in the deaths of seven people.
The incident occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2025, when approximately 60 illegal miners attempted to breach the mine's security fence.
In a statement, President Mahama expressed regret over the loss of life and extended condolences to the affected families. He also urged AngloGold Ashanti to cover medical expenses for the injured and facilitate burial arrangements for the deceased.
