Dr. Nii Moi Thompson Appointed Chairman of National Development Planning Commission

Development Economist, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson has been appointed as Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, pending consultations with the Council of State.

Accra, Ghana - 03 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Development Economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson as Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, subject to consultations with the Council of State.

According to a statement released by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, the chairman will work closely with key stakeholders, including the Minister for Finance, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and representatives from Ghana's 16 regions, to provide strategic advice on the country's development.

As Director-General, Dr. Thompson oversaw the preparation of Ghana's 40-Year Development Plan and led the country's technical delegations to the UN to develop the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In another appointment, President Mahama has named Mr. Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), pending the reconstitution of the Board. Mr. Twum Boafo, a Civil Engineer and Finance expert, has a strong background in management, having served as Chief Executive of the Ghana Free Zones Authority from 2009 to 2017.
