Accra, Ghana – 11 August, 2025 – President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that the forensic reports on all eight victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region have been received.

The crash claimed the lives of prominent government officials and military personnel.

The bodies of Dr. Murtala Mohammed and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed were laid to rest at the Military Cemetery in Accra on August 10, following Janaizah prayers led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu. A state funeral for all eight victims will be held on August 15 at the Black Star Square in Accra.

The remains of the victims were sent to South Africa for DNA analysis due to their severely charred condition. The Mahama administration had declared a three-day national mourning period, which included a flower-laying ceremony and a memorial service.

President Mahama expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a "very deep personal loss." He thanked the bereaved families for their patience and pledged to continue working tirelessly to serve the people of Ghana in memory of the deceased. The Minister of Defence has also paid tribute to the late Dr. Omane Boamah, highlighting his visionary leadership.
