Police arrests Wontumi FM Presenter over Publication of False News
A video circulating on social media appears to show Oheneba Nana Asiedu encouraging voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a prominent radio and television presenter in Kumasi for offences including publication of false news story contrary to section 208 of the Ciminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

A video circulating on social media appears to show Asiedu in the studios of Wontumi FM, encouraging voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days, sparking concerns that this misinformation could disrupt the electoral process and create confusion among voters.

The Police described the statement made in the video as “false and likely to disturb the public peace and have urged media professionals to exercise caution and responsibility when disseminating information, emphasizing the importance of accurate and responsible reporting.

Asiedu was ealier summoned to assist in investigations into the dissemination of false information regarding the upcoming general election but according to a statement realeased by the Police on Saturday, Nov 23, the TV Presenter had been arrested and was in Police custody.

According to the Police, he will be 'presented before court for him to face justice'.

This development comes as Ghana prepares for its general election on December 7, with concerns over misinformation and its potential impact on the electoral process.
