Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum Joins NPP Presidential Race, Picks Up Nomination Forms

Accra, Ghana – 14 August, 2025 – Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, a former Education Minister and current Bosomtwe MP, has thrown his hat into the ring for the New Patriotic Party's presidential candidacy. Adutwum by picking the nomination forms ,is now an official contender in the party's flagbearer election set for January 2026.

A group of students who benefited from Dr. Adutwum's foundation picked up nomination forms for him as a show of support and endorsement. They expressed confidence that Dr. Adutwum is the transformative leader Ghana needs to drive development across all sectors of the economy .

With his sights set on leading the NPP into the 2028 general elections, Adutwum is leveraging his technocratic expertise and accomplishments in public service to build his campaign.

Dr. Adutwum, who served under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and is the current Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, is positioning himself to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

The contender is renowned for his leadership in educational reform, particularly championing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) development and expanding access to secondary education. His entry into the flagbearer race is expected to spark considerable discussion within party ranks, with many supporters touting his technocratic expertise and accomplishments in public service.

The Bosomtwe MP emphasized that his campaign would focus on harnessing technocratic expertise and delivering “practical solutions” to Ghana’s pressing challenges. “We need a leader who understands how to transform our economy through education, innovation and job creation,” he declared. Dr. Adutwum's campaign is built on his track record of transforming Ghana's education system, and he believes this experience will serve him well in leading the party.

The NPP's flagbearer election is scheduled for January 31, 2026. Other notable aspirants include Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ,former Vice President, who has received endorsements from over 490 NPP youth organisers and more than 60 NPP Members of Parliament ,Kennedy Ohene Agyapong ,a former Assin Central MP, known for his outspoken views ,Kwabena Agyei Agyepong a former NPP General Secretary and Dr. Bryan Acheampong,MP for Abetifi and former Minister of Agriculture.
