Police Retrieve 3 Stolen State Vehicles from Former GIHOC Boss Maxwell Kofi Jumah
Accra, Ghana - 30 June, 2025 - The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, over allegations of stealing company vehicles.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, the arrest followed a formal petition from GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, accusing Jumah of unlawfully taking possession of company vehicles after leaving office.
DCOP Donkor disclosed that an arrest warrant was duly secured before Jumah was apprehended on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
During a press briefing in Accra on Monday June 30, she stated that three vehicles belonging to GIHOC had been successfully recovered during the operation. She added that Jumah is currently being held at the CID headquarters in Accra, where he is assisting police with their ongoing investigation.
"A story in the media about the arrest of Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, yes, that is accurate. Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah was arrested based on a complaint or a petition that was submitted to us by GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited,'' she said.
"We received the petition to the effect that some vehicles, which were the property of that company, have been stolen by the said Maxwell Kofi Jumah. He is in our custody at the CID headquarters, and he is assisting in an investigation. I must say that as of this afternoon, we have retrieved three vehicles; the said vehicles that were stolen by him have been retrieved, so he is really assisting us in the investigation, and we will take it up from there," she added.
The police have assured the public that investigations will be handled thoroughly and professionally. Further details will be released as the process continues. Jumah, who previously served as Mayor of Kumasi and later as Minister of Manpower Development and Employment, was Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries until his exit in 2023.
Jumah has since been granted bail to the tune of GH₵500,000 with two sureties, after appearing at the CID headquarters.
The bail was granted on Monday, June 30, 2025, as the investigation continues.
