Three Sentenced to 19 Years for iPhone Theft in Ho

Ho, Volta Region, Ghana - 10 May, 2025 - Three individuals have been sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison for their involvement in a violent robbery near the Ho Central Market. Mercy Sokpe, 22, Atsu Kamasa, 25, and Godfred Dzidonu, 19, were convicted on Friday, May 9, 2025, by the Ho Circuit Court for conspiring to rob a 21-year-old victim of his iPhone 6s.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred on May 4, 2025, when Sokpe approached the victim under the guise of taking a selfie, before signaling her accomplices to attack and steal the phone. The victim raised an alarm, leading to the arrest of Dzidonu, who was found with the stolen phone.
The court sentenced each of the accused to three years' imprisonment for conspiracy to commit robbery. Additionally, Kamasa and Dzidonu received five years each for the robbery charge. The Ghana Police Service commended the public's swift response and reiterated its commitment to fighting crime in the region.
In a statement, DSP Felix Danku, Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Police Service in the Volta Region, advised the public to remain vigilant and cautious of strangers approaching them for help. The sentencing brings closure to the case, highlighting the importance of public cooperation in supporting law enforcement efforts.
