Dr. Kofi Amoah Calls for National Rescue Fund to Support Vulnerable Ghanaians, Pledges GH₵100,000
Accra, Ghana - 30 June, 2025 - Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Kofi Amoah, has called for the creation of a National Rescue Fund (NRF) to support vulnerable citizens amidst the country's economic challenges.
Dr. Amoah made the proposal in a social media post, urging Ghanaians to take ownership of the nation's recovery by showing solidarity with those in need.
According to Dr. Amoah, the NRF would provide a direct and timely intervention for Ghanaians facing immense hardship, particularly in sectors like healthcare and education.
He believes that the Fund would serve as a powerful symbol of civic unity, responsibility, and hope in a time of national distress.
“Let’s show that we love our country and that each of us must have her or his skin in the game, when times are hard as well as when times are good,” he appealed.
Dr. Amoah formally called on the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ato Forson, to consider his proposal and spearhead the establishment of the Fund. He has also pledged to donate GH₵100,000 to the Fund as soon as it is set up.
The proposal comes as the country’s newly installed government, led by President John Mahama, navigates the enormous economic challenges it inherited from the previous administration. Dr. Amoah's advocacy is rooted in his long-standing belief in self-reliant African leadership, which focuses on mobilizing local resources, skills, and patriotism for national development.
Dr. Amoah is appealing to well-resourced individuals and institutions, including traditional authorities, churches, diaspora associations, and professional bodies, to contribute generously to the Fund. He believes that the NRF would be a meaningful way for Ghanaians to show their love for their country and commitment to its development.
'' I suggest that the Minister of Finance establishes an account in the name of “NATIONAL RESCUE FUND” that can receive contributions large and small and accessible via MoMo, bank transfers, checks etc, he wrote on X.
''Please, fellow citizens, let’s do this as a sign of unity and togetherness and that answering such a call can serve a veritable testimony that Ghana is serious about turning a new page and doing things that will inure to the benefit and welfare of all And to this end, I throw in my widows might of GhS 100,000 to the National Rescue Fund as soon as the account is set up by the Ministry of Finance,'' he added.
