Accra, Ghana - 3 July, 2025 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic appearance in Ghana's Parliament on Wednesday, marking a significant moment in the country's diplomatic relations with India.

As he entered the parliamentary chambers, he was greeted with a warm reception, setting the tone for a day of high-level engagement and cooperation between the two nations.

In his address to the Ghanaian lawmakers, PM Modi praised Ghana's commitment to democratic values and inclusive development, describing the nation as a "beacon of inspiration for the entire African continent".

He commended Ghana's resilience, leadership, and democratic maturity.

“When we look at Ghana, we see a nation that shines with courage, rises above history, and turns every challenge into creativity and grace. Your commitment to democratic ideals and inclusive progress truly makes Ghana a beacon of inspiration for the entire African continent,” he said.

PM Modi's remarks were met with applause from Members of Parliament and dignitaries present, as he emphasized the importance of Ghana's democratic ideals and inclusive progress. Prior to delivering his speech, PM Modi paid a visit to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, where he laid a wreath on the tomb of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah. This gesture underscores the strong historical ties between India and Ghana, dating back to the early post-independence era.

The visit is expected to deepen bilateral relations between Ghana and India, with a focus on trade, technology, education, and cultural exchange. Both countries are poised to sign multiple memoranda of understanding aimed at enhancing bilateral development cooperation. The areas of cooperation include agriculture, health, defence, digital technology, and education, among others.

The Indian Prime Minister's visit to Ghana is part of a broader Africa tour, underscoring New Delhi's efforts to reset and deepen its engagement with the continent. Ghana holds a pivotal position within the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States, and India regards it as a key partner in advancing cooperation across the Global South.

During his visit, PM Modi is set to receive Ghana's highest national honour, the Order of the Star of Ghana, in recognition of his contributions to international diplomacy and cooperation. This prestigious award places him alongside distinguished global leaders who have made significant contributions to global affairs.
