Okudzeto Ablakwa Warns Nigerian National Over "Igbo Kingdom" Claims
Accra, Ghana – 18 July, 2025 - Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has cautioned Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, a Nigerian national, against making statements that could be perceived as divisive or incendiary in Ghana. This comes after a viral video surfaced, showing Ihenetu discussing plans to establish an "Igbo Kingdom" in Ghana, sparking widespread public outcry.
In a meeting with Ihenetu, Minister Ablakwa emphasized the importance of respecting Ghanaian laws and customs.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, July 17, Mr Ablakwa confirmed that he had invited Ihenetu for a meeting to address the said claims.
He reiterated that while Ghana welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds, foreign nationals must adhere to the country's laws and refrain from actions that could undermine national unity.
"As I emphasised in the meeting, Ghana is exceptionally proud of its celebrated friendly foreign policy, which is welcoming of all to our beautiful and peaceful country, particularly Africans and people of African descent. We are determined to keep championing that Pan-African identity, for which we have attained global renown."
During the meeting, Ihenetu explained that the viral video was an old interview from 2013, which he now regrets. The video showed Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu discussing plans to acquire a tract of land for the supposed purpose of creating an Igbo Kingdom within Ghana.
