NPP Meets Peace Council Over Rising Tensions Ahead of Akwatia By-Election

Accra, Ghana – 6 August, 2025 – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep concerns over what it claims are the growing state of insecurity and electoral violence in the country, particularly with the upcoming Akwatia by-election. In a meeting with the National Peace Council at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, the party's leadership emphasized the need for proactive engagement to prevent escalation of tensions.

The NPP highlighted the alarming state of insecurity in the country, citing recent violence during the Ablekuma North re-run as a worrying trend. According to the party's Natinal organizer Henry Nana Boakye ,the NPP would not initiate any political violence in Akwatia but would be adequately prepared to protect themselves and confront any aggression from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NPP urged the Peace Council to take a more proactive role in preventing violence and ensuring peace during the by-election.

The meeting between the NPP and the National Peace Council is part of the council's efforts to engage with political parties and stakeholders to prevent electoral violence and promote peace. The Peace Council has been working to build trust among political parties and has organized several meetings and programs to promote peaceful elections.

The Akwatia by-election has been a point of concern for the NPP, with the party emphasizing the need for the Peace Council to ensure a peaceful and violence-free election.
