No Pardon has been Granted by Akufo-Addo - Eugene Arhin
Accra, Ghana - 06 Jan, 2025 - A statement from the Office of the President has dismissed reports circulating in the media that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has granted presidential pardons to 11 individuals.
The reports had claimed that the President had exercised his prerogative of mercy to pardon several convicts, including William Ato Essien, the former CEO of Capital Bank, and Philip Akpeena Assibit, convicted in the GYEEDA scandal.
According to the statement, issued by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications, these reports are entirely inaccurate. The President's office emphasized that no pardons have been granted to the individuals mentioned or any others.
The controversy surrounding the reported pardons had sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the President's decision to grant mercy to individuals convicted of serious crimes. However, with this latest statement, the Office of the President has sought to set the record straight.
The public has been urged to disregard any contrary information and rely solely on official communications from the President's office.
“We wish to categorically state that these assertions are inaccurate, and no pardon has been granted by President Akufo-Addo,” the statement read.
