Ministry of Foreign Affairs Cancels 701 Diplomatic and Service Passports

Accra, Ghana - 06 May, 2025 - Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken decisive action to revoke 701 diplomatic and service passports as part of a broader effort to recall official travel documents nationwide.
This move targets 341 diplomatic passports and 360 service passports that were not returned despite public announcements in January and March 2025.
The affected passports have been placed on a stop-list, rendering them invalid for international travel. Individuals attempting to use these passports will face strict enforcement at entry and exit points, resulting in confiscation.
This measure aims to enforce compliance with the Passports and Travel Certificates Act of 1967.
According a statement from the Ministry, former government officials and public figures holding these passports include former ministers and their spouses, members of parliament, council of state members, retired judges, regional ministers, and officials of the National Cathedral Project. Other affected individuals include non-career ambassadors, religious and traditional leaders, businesspersons, and entrepreneurs who are no longer in service.
