National Airline Plan Takes Shape: Transport Minister Inaugurates Taskforce to Chart Course for Ghana's Aviation

Accra, Ghana - 07 May, 2025 - Ghana's Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has launched a 10-member task force to establish a new national airline, aiming to boost the country's aviation sector and position Ghana as a competitive hub in West Africa.
The task force, chaired by Charles Asare, former Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, is tasked with developing a robust business model for the airline.
The initiative seeks to enhance regional air connectivity and capitalize on Ghana's strategic location as a gateway to Africa. Minister Nikpe emphasized the government's commitment to creating a sustainable and efficient national carrier, highlighting the potential for growth and development in the aviation industry.
“We have facilities at our national airport and other airlines are taking advantage of it. It is only proper that as people, we get a portion of these advantages.
“We are the gateway to Africa, and we are establishing ourselves to become the aviation hub of Africa. We cannot do this without participating in that industry. For this reason, the president has constituted you, to ensure that we compete and also take advantage of the facilities we have worked so hard for over the years.
“Our vision as a government and as the Ministry of Transport is to make Ghana a transportation hub, whether in aviation, maritime, or by road. Our vision is that you play the role of connecting people within the sub-region and the rest of the world,” he stated.
The task force chair, Charles Asare pledged the team's dedication to delivering a successful national airline, citing the team's relevant skills and experience.
“The vision is very clear to us and the task ahead is quite defined. Some members of the team, I have worked with I can say that we have the right skills and experience to deliver this dream''.
The establishment of a new national airline is expected to promote economic growth, increase air travel options, and solidify Ghana's position as a major aviation hub in West Africa.
