High Court Grants GHS200K Bail to Charles Bissue, Andy Owusu; Case Adjourned to May 29
Charles Bissue

Accra, Ghana - 06 May, 2025 -  The Accra High Court  has granted bail to Charles Bissue, former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, and Andy Thomas Owusu, totaling GHc 200,000 each with two sureties, one of whom must be justified.

The two have been charged with 15 counts of corruption-related offenses, including abuse of office for profit. Bissue allegedly used his position as Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining to facilitate the renewal of a mining license for ORR Resources Enterprise in exchange for GHC 35,000, with GHC 15,000 paid directly to him through Owusu.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor alleges that Owusu negotiated the deal and retained GHC 20,000 of the bribe.

Both accused individuals pleaded not guilty and were ordered to deposit their passports with the court registry.

As part of their bail conditions, they'll report to the Office of the Special Prosecutor monthly.

The case is adjourned to May 29.
