Accra, Ghana – 11 August, 2025 - President John Mahama has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Dr. Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Alhaji Muniru, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, who tragically lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

In a poignant message, President Mahama prayed that God would grant the souls of the deceased eternal peace and paradise.

The helicopter crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of eight prominent individuals, including government officials and military personnel. The victims were remembered for their dedication to public service and their contributions to Ghana's development.

President Mahama expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a "very deep personal loss." He thanked the bereaved families for their patience and pledged to continue working tirelessly to serve the people of Ghana in memory of the deceased. The President's message was echoed by other leaders, who praised the victims for their service and commitment to the nation.

The bodies of Dr. Murtala Mohammed and Alhaji Muniru were laid to rest at the Military Cemetery in Accra on August 10, following Janaizah prayers led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu. A state funeral for all eight victims will be held on August 15 at the Black Star Square in Accra.

Dr. Murtala Mohammed and Alhaji Muniru will be remembered for their dedication to public service and their contributions to Ghana's development. Their passing has left a void in the lives of those who knew them, and their legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
