Mahama Calls for Immediate End to Russia-Ukraine War

Jubilee House, Accra, Ghana - 12 March, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has added his voice to the growing international chorus calling for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Speaking during a ceremony at the Presidency, where five newly accredited ambassadors presented their letters, President Mahama described the proposed 30-day ceasefire as a crucial step towards lasting peace.
President Mahama's remarks came as he met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy, Laura Ranalli. He expressed optimism that the ceasefire could create an opportunity for meaningful dialogue between the warring parties.
The President also highlighted the devastating impact of the conflict, particularly on young people, stressing the need for an immediate resolution.
“We are pleased to note President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call for a 30-day ceasefire. We hope this will pave the way for dialogue to begin, and that the issue between Russia and Ukraine can be addressed during that period,” he stated.
“A lot of young people have lost their lives, and it’s time for this war to end. The only way for it to end is through a ceasefire and the start of dialogue. That’s our position on the matter,” he added.
The Russia-Ukraine war has had far-reaching consequences, including significant humanitarian and economic costs. President Mahama's call for a ceasefire echoes the sentiments of many world leaders, who have urged both sides to engage in dialogue and find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
President Mahama's comments were made during a credentials ceremony at the Presidency, where five newly accredited ambassadors presented their letters.
