Government needs $1.7bn to complete Agenda 111 projects - Mahama

Accra, Ghana - 24 Feb, 2025 - President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that completing the unfinished Agenda 111 projects will require a staggering $1.7 billion.
This initiative, launched by the previous government, aimed to revolutionize Ghana's healthcare landscape by building new hospitals across the country.
However, nearly 90 of these hospitals remain incomplete, with some even lacking basic amenities like beds.
Mahama emphasized the need for collaboration to get these projects back on track. He proposed partnering with religious organizations to complete some of the delayed projects, suggesting that they could work together to improve existing mission hospitals and provide better healthcare services.
Speaking during a meeting with the Christian Council, the President assured Ghanaians that his government is committed to completing all Agenda 111 projects to meet the country's healthcare needs. He encouraged religious bodies to join forces with the government to make this vision a reality.
“The previous government started Agenda 111 but has not been able to finish the hospitals. There are so many of them unfinished. Even the ones they commissioned don’t have a single bed.''
“Now we need 1.7 billion US dollars to complete the Agenda 111 projects.''
“If the missions have a hospital in an area, we are not coming to compete with the missions by building a hospital. We will use the resources to improve the mission hospitals so that they can provide the service.
“So I am also proposing that if some of the missions are interested, they could finish some of the hospitals and manage them,” he added.
