Ken Ofori-Atta's Family Slams OSP for 'Premeditated Vendetta', Petitions INTERPOL to Delete Red Notice

Accra, Ghana - 09 June, 2025 - The family of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has strongly condemned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what they describe as a "premeditated vendetta" against their loved one.
In a statement released on June 9, the family accused the OSP of abusing its powers and violating due process, constitutional rights, and international law.
The controversy surrounds an INTERPOL Red Notice issued for Ofori-Atta, which the family claims was obtained through manipulated evidence and withheld medical information.
According to the family, Ofori-Atta has been undergoing treatment for cancer at the Mayo Clinic in the United States and was scheduled for surgery on June 13.
They argue that the OSP's actions are a deliberate attempt to humiliate and harass Ofori-Atta, rather than a genuine pursuit of justice.
The OSP had declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice after he failed to appear for a scheduled interrogation on June 2, citing medical reasons and offering to participate in a video-recorded interview instead. The family claims that the OSP ignored these offers and instead chose to portray Ofori-Atta as a fugitive, despite knowing about his serious health condition.
The family has formally petitioned the National Central Bureau and the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL's Files (CCF) to delete the Red Notice, arguing that it was procured in violation of international law and Ofori-Atta's rights. They have also filed a new lawsuit challenging the legality of the arrest warrant and the conduct of the OSP.
Ofori-Atta is under investigation for several high-profile cases, including his alleged involvement in contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority, the termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology, and the procurement procedures for the National Cathedral project, among others.
The family maintains that Ofori-Atta has never fled from accountability and has cooperated with various inquiries in the past, including those conducted by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Parliament, and the ECOWAS Court.
They are confident that once his treatment and recovery are complete, Ofori-Atta will return to Ghana to face any lawful inquiry and will be vindicated.
